Coonawarra
This one-of-a-kind narrow ridge of earth, just 27 kilometres long and two clicks wide, is routinely described as one of the most remote wine regions in the world, known for producing incomparable red wines – in particular, its classic Cabernet Sauvignon.
The result of mother nature
A geographical wonder, the Coonawarra landscape was forged over a million years, the result of Mother Nature weaving her stunning magic. Beginning under the waters of the Great Southern Ocean, today’s famous Terra Rossa soil – the essence of this winemaking region – is the slow and steady result of melting ice caps, seabeds forming into limestone, and winds blowing air-borne dust. And it all settled above an ancient reservoir of pure water.
unique Geology
It’s this unique geology, coupled with a Mediterranean-esque climate of warm days and cool nights, plus a long and mild growing season, that give the wines of Coonawarra their distinct, outstanding qualities – quite unlike anything from anywhere else in the world.
And it was here in Coonawarra that a modest winery – with an unusual and intriguing name – was established. It was one of the first in the region, and one that would stand the test of time.
